The Android Challenge: Day One

Day One: Saturday, May 20, 2017

Saturday was the first full day of the challenge. I spent most of the day just getting my necessary apps downloaded and set up. I may have missed an app or two, but I think I have most of them. For the most part, it’s really no different than using my iPhone. I texted my best friend today, and he didn’t seem to ask me why I went from “blue” to “green.” The phone also fits nicely into my pocket as well, which is good. One of my favorite features is being able to use AndChat—it does not time out at all for app inactivity (unlike Colloquy for iOS). Additionally, the Steam app is better on Android; it can actually parse URLs and I don’t have to manually copy from within text chat to access them.

I do have my dislikes, too. Firstly, there’s an annoying feature where if you motion the phone in a certain way, the camera app will open on its own. Also, I do miss the screen size and performance of the iPhone 6 Plus. Basic web browsing is fine and smooth; however, websites that do not have a mobile version are fairly sluggish. Scrolling through my Facebook news feed was a bit on the slow side as well.

End-of-day battery percentage: 50%.
